Musketeers Get First True Road Win of 2024 Vs Providence 85-65

The Trey Green show was in full effect on Saturday afternoon as the Xavier Musketeer picked up their first true road win of the season.

Green scored a career high 23 points shooting 9-14 from the floor and 5-8 from the perimeter. Green also had six rebounds during the Saturday afternoon contest.

The Musketeers also got a huge game from Desmond Claude who scored 21 points while knocking down three 3-pointers as well. Claude has now gone 5/9 over the last two games from deep. Throughout the season Xavier has often struggled with the three-point shot but as a team they collectively shot 12/24 from the perimeter including Gytis Nemeiksa's two big shots in the second half.

The Musketeers fell down as much as 11 points in the first half before going on a 24-9 scoring run to take a one-point lead into halftime. Xavier then started the second half on a 20-3 run in the first six and a half minutes of play. Providence would get a few baskets in a row at times to try and get a run going but couldn't ever cut their deficit to single-digits. The Friars were paced by Josh Oduru with twenty points, and Devin Carter with 18.

Not only was this Xavier's first road win of the season, it is also their seond Quad-1 win of the season. The Musketeers are now 8-8 overall, and 2-3 in Big East play.

Now, the Musketeers return home for two games starting on Tuesday, January 19th hosting Thad Matta and the Butler Bulldogs. Butler got a big win on Wednesday at Marquette but fell on Saturday at home vs Seton Hall. Tip-Off will be at 6:30 PM EST and the game will be broadcasted on FS1.
