Video: Wes Miller, Dillon Mitchell, Simas Lukosius Preview Xavier
It's shootout week.
Wes Miller was joined by starting forwards Dillon Mitchell and Simas Lukosius to discuss Saturday's Crosstown Shootout match up against Xavier.
"It's one of the best rivalries in college basketball and you know, this is a sports town," Miller told media Tuesday afternoon. "I feel like a Cincinnatian now and this is one of the best sports towns in the United States and college basketball is a big part of that."
Making his first appearance and getting his first experience in the crosstown shootout, Texas transfer Dillon Mitchell described how the Cincinnati fans have helped give him an understanding of what this rivalry means to the city and fanbase.
"I heard about it right when I got to the city, not even from my teammates, just from the people around the city, the fans around the city," said Mitchell.
Mitchell was able to experience an atmosphere similar to what Saturday will be like last season when he visited Fifth Third Arena as an opponent with Texas.
" I remember when we (Texas) came here last year, it was nuts. We weren't expecting anything for real because this was Cincinnati's first year in the Big 12 last year so we didn't know what to expect as far as crowd or type of fan base. But by the time jump ball was going, we were looking around like 'wow it's packed' so it'll be fun for me at least to be on the other side of it."
Mitchell continued.
"I've saif this before, we play for the name on front of our chest, we play for this city, we play for this university. So seeing the fans like that just gets us to a whole another level so they're going to help us win games like I've said before."
