Texas transfer Dillon Mitchell commits to Cincinnati
Former five-star McDonald's All American Dillon Mitchell has committed to Cincinnati after announcing his intentions to transfer from Texas.
Rated the eighth best prospect nationally coming out of Montverde Academy in the 2022 class, Mitchell averaged 9.6 points, 7.6 rebounds per game during his sophomore season for the Longhorns. His best game of the season was a 21 point, 8 rebound performance against eventual National Champion, UConn.
During his freshman season at Texas, Mitchell played and started all 38 games and led the team in field goal percentage (.636, 75-118).
When you turn on the film, it is easy to see why Wes Miller coveted the 6-foot-8 forward.
Mitchell is a long, athletic guy that can play and defend multiple positions at both ends of the floor. He uses his athleticism and size to get easy finishes at the rim and has the ability to be an elite shot blocker. His length creates problems for the opposition and he knows how to use his body to get to the spots that he is most comfortable with on the floor.
Those traits should mesh well with what Wes Miller wants to do at both ends of the court.
The Tampa native joins Bradley transfer Connor Hickman, USC transfer Arrinten Page, and freshman forwards Tyler Betsey and Tyler McKinley as newcomers to the Cincinnati program.
Others involved in Mitchell's recruitment included Auburn, Miami (FL), and St John's. Mitchell visited Auburn prior to committing to Cincinnati.
After missing the NCAA Tournament during his first three seasons, Wes Miller has put together a roster that should come in to the 2024/25 season with pre-season top-25 hype and aspirations of finishing at or near the top of the Big 12 standings.
