Bandaogo, Newman, Skillings Earn Big 12 Honors
With the regular season concluding yesterday, the Big 12 announced their annual award winners.
For Cincinnati, Aziz Bandaogo and Dan Skilling' earned All Big 12 Honorable Mention, while John Newman was named to the Big 12 All Defensive team.
Skillings finished the season as the Bearcats' leading scorer, including 12.8 ppg in conference play, while also pulling down 6.4 rebounds per game. Skillings finished with 17 points in the 92-56 regular season finale win over West Virginia.
Aziz Bandaogo had to sit the beginning of the season while going through the NCAA transfer process, but ultimately finished the season averaging 7.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg. Bandaogo also posted 1.6 blocks per game, the most by a Bearcat since Chris Vogt in 2019-20.
John Newman was one of five selected to the Big 12 All Defensive Team.
The sixth year senior went through a tough stretch after a rib injury at West Virginia, but closed the season strong, averaging just under 16 points per game. Newman was regularly tasked with slowing the opposing team's best player and the Greensboro native answered the challenge more often than not. He held Texas Tech's Pop Isaacs to a 5-for-19 performance in a road win, and finished second on the team in steals with 41.
The Bearcats will begin conference tournament play tomorrow when they meet West Virginia for the third time this season.
