FC Cincinnati and Midfielder Yuya Kubo agree to a two-year extension
Earlier this morning FC Cincinnati announced they have resigned midfielder Yuya Kubo to a new two-year extension that will keep him tied to the club through the 2025 season, with a player option for the 2026 season. Kubo joined the club back in 2020 and since then has racked up the fourth most appearances in club history.
"We’re excited to have Yuya back with FC Cincinnati,” said Chris Albright, FC Cincinnati General Manager. “Yuya’s ability on the ball, ground coverage, and positional versatility make him an integral part of our group. He’s also a player of high character and a great teammate, and we’re thrilled that he’ll be with us this coming season and beyond.”
Kubo, appeared in 2023 matches for the Orange and Blue, the most games played since 2017-2018 during his time with the KAA Gent, (42). Kubo, was a vital piece for the Pat Noonan and FC Cincinnati this season despite only scoring two goals and three assists, both of the goals in which came during the U.S Open Cup Competition. one of thsoe goals game in the 114th minute of the US Open Cup Semifinals vs Inter Miami CF at TQL Stadium.
However, the news of Yuya's extension now means the club will return Ian Murphy, Arquimides Ordonez from the 2023 season. The Club is still in contact with Santiago Arias, Dominique Badji, Ray Gaddis, Junior Moreno after initially declining their options following the club's Eastern Conference Finals loss to Columbus Crew.
